Sleeping on a silk pillowcases offers benefits well beyond the sheer glamour of it all. If your hair is prone to fizziness, the silk will help to keep your locks from becoming overly dry. And for those who are prone to acne, dermatologists recommend silk pillowcases as a way to reduce blemishes. Dry clean can prolong the lifespan of silk, but it can also be achieved if you follow the instructions for washing silk.
Silk Product Care
Washing:
- Wash at a temperature below 30 degrees.
- Wash separately from other fabrics and other colors.
- Use neutral or special detergent (we recommend machine wash delicate 30°C (86°F)
- Gently knead to avoid tearing the silk by force excessively.
- After washing, dry in a ventilated place to avoid directly sunshine.
- Avoid machine washing, we recommend to use shower gel, shampoo or silk detergent for cleaning.
- Avoid prolonged soaking.
- After drying, ironing is required to keep the silk pillowcase smooth.
NOTICE: Due to the textile technology of silk, it will be easy to tear along the texture, but not easy to tear by perpendicular to the texture.
Airing & Storage
After washing silk pillowcase, it is not advisable to expose them to the sunshine, and it is not advisable to dry them with a dryer. Generally, they should be placed in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Because ultraviolet rays in the sun easily make silk fabrics yellow, fade, and age. Therefore, silk should not be twisted to remove water after washing. They should be shaken lightly, spread out on the opposite side, dry to 70% and then iron or shake.
(1) It should be ironed when 80% is dry, and it is not suitable to spray water directly, and the back of the clothes should be ironed, and the temperature should be controlled between 100-180 degrees;
(2) When collecting, it should be washed, dried, stacked, and wrapped in cloth, and placed in the cabinet, and camphor or sanitary balls should not be placed.
Ironing
The anti-wrinkle performance of silk is slightly worse than that of chemical fiber, so it is said that “wrinkle-free is not silk”. If the silk pillowcase are wrinkled after washing, they need to be ironed to be crisp, elegant and beautiful. When ironing, airing the silk to 70% dry, then spray the water evenly and wait for 3-5 minutes before ironing. The ironing temperature should be controlled below 100°C. The iron should not be directly pressed against the silk surface to avoid aurora.
Silk is a natural fiber and washing in a solution that’s too acidic or alkaline can cause the silk to harden in a single wash. If you can’t find a detergent that specifies ph. level then just go for one that specifies silk. Do not use bleach products.
Another important factor is water temperature. Even just slightly above 30 degrees Centigrade or 85 degrees Fahrenheit can change silk dramatically. The safest method if your machine doesn’t specify exact heat settings is either cold or just one level above cold.
If you wish to maximize the life of your pillowcase, hand washing is the ultimate method. The gentler you wash your slip pillow case, the longer it will keep its sheen. The shinier it is, the better it will ‘slip’, which is one of the benefits to its health and beauty qualities. The same goes for drying your pillowcase, do not place in tumble dryer.
Go through the above steps and clean your silk pillowcases with enough care, you’ll find that silk pillowcases can also last for many years.
